I also keep a separate, very easy to edit list of outstanding decisions and selections needed. Primarily a brief description of who is working that day and what is going on. I am putting very innocuous information on the daily Blog. Those are primarily the client, and a couple of people in my company (construction coordinator and project manager). I am not keeping my job blogs private because I want those who have access to be able to log in with no username/password. I'm in the "experimental" stages of using Blogs for jobs. Randy, yes BT has the ability to add and manage tasks and to do's, that is another nice feature.Dan I do like how you can email the blog, I did that with some photos.\ How do you keep it private, I set one up and did not publish it but when I was logged out it was searchable. I am curious as well about the blog for managing jobs, I just set one up this morning to play around. I hate booting up my computer at home anymore unless I have to. I guess the more I am utilizing the features I like it but when others aren't or the customers won't log in I find that very frustrating.Īllan are saying the login feature in BT is a pain for customers whereas a blog is much quicker/ easier to get the information? Is this mainly people trying to access from smartphones? I think these programs HAVE to be more compatible with smart phones in the future. Can't recall if BT has a to do list feature where you can assign to-do's to yourself or others. I don't think I would ever turn my operations upside down to fit the program but if we can tweak things to work better with them that is okay IMO.

I guess I want it to help me run my jobs AND help me make money. For me I need an internal way to keep track of jobs first and a way to try and upsell options/changes whatever second. As Allan also mentioned what are we trying to accomplish? I think it may be somewhat different for each of us. You know I was really struggling with that question earlier this year. And free.īottom line is if I find something better I will take a hard look at it, if this is as good as it gets, I can live with that.Īt the end of the day the question to be answered is are these programs adding value and helping to us operate more efficiently?. Owner gets alerts and there is no log-in required. I've been using a Blog for each job where I can enter information very, very easy on the fly, from my cell phone. I wish you could control start and finish dates as well as duration from a cell phone email alert. I also agree with you that the schedule is just OK. And I agree the Change Order tab works very well. The Warranty Tab is pretty good but lack of reports and filtering limit its effectiveness. That has been the biggest negative feedback from everyone I've shown the program to. The biggest thorn in my side has been their Option Tab that they try to offer up as a Selection Tab, I've just never understood why they call it Options rather than Selections, of course an Option is not a Selection and has a tract builder connotation to it. Specifically, there are a lot of things I like about Builder Trend, but I agree with you it has some shortcomings in a few areas. That is one struggle for me, am I using this as an internal system to really manage jobs, or as an informational tool for clients to see status of their job. I do think they do provide some operational value for builders and some customer service value for clients. I find these online PM platforms a bit limiting, they are not magic bullets that solve all job management problems. It will be interesting at that time how I can make coconstruct work for me.

If/when the market cooperates and I can make some presales on the lots we own I am probably going to start pushing options/allowances alot harder since I'll probably have to have really slim margins to make a sale.

A job we are just starting I expect to have at least a handful of changes since it is a larger home and more custom. I typically have very few allowances in a contract but will come up with come up with a value at a later time in someone wants to change from what I have speced out. The only job that had some changes and allownces on I think it went pretty well although there were not too many changes.
#Builder trend free
I did throw in a few free changes since it was in the budget and the job previous to that was a spec. The job we are just finishing had no paid changes or allowances. now that sounds like fun! Don't laugh but I had to put some gliitery polish on my 3 year old daughters fingernails today.
